The City University of Seattle’s Enactus team that mentors our workers held a clothing drive this summer on their Belltown campus to benefit our workers.

The students collected shirts, pants, jackets and other items from their classmates and delivered them to us in late July. This is an exciting partnership that we hope will last for many years to come.

Thank you for all your help!

Eye Clinic once again receives $10,000 grant from RealNetworks Foundation

The Eye Clinic serves more than 350 people annually.

The Eye Clinic serves more than 350 people annually.

We are proud to announce that RealNetworks Foundation has once again awarded the Millionair Club Charity a $10,000 grant to help support the Eye Clinic.

Every year from September through June we help more than 350 individuals receive free eye exams and eyeglasses. Good vision is critical to being successful at a job. Unfortunately, for many folks poor vision is a significant hindrance to landing employment.

The Eye Clinic is our way of addressing this problem directly. Our dedicated team of volunteer opticians and optometrists serve our workers every Thursday to give them these services that are not readily available anywhere else.

“Affordable eyeglasses are very expensive,” says Abdullah, a Millionair Club Charity worker. “A good pair of eyeglasses will help me land a better job.”

This is our second year in a row in which RealNetworks Foundation has given us this grant. We’d like to thank them for sharing our mission of helping rebuild the lives of men and women in our community by improving their vision.

Cynthia, one of our dedicated volunteer optometrists, also shares the belief that improved vision is crucial to securing a good job.

“Being able to see is an important step in getting back on your feet. I am happy to be able to provide this service,” Cynthia says. “The Millionair Club Charity is a valuable resource in the community.”

A former Millionair Club Charity worker welcomes a new granddaughter and a bright future

Earlier this spring, Danny Climer became a grandfather to Addie Mae. Along with a new wife, steady employment and being reunited with his family in Eugene, Ore., Danny owes it all to the help he received from the Millionair Club Charity.

“The Millionair Club allowed me to stay afloat financially when economic hard times were upon us,” Danny remembers. “I was at a point in my life where I did not feel desirable as a [worker].”

Danny left Oregon and came to the Millionair Club Charity in 2010 where he entered our Employment Program, working more than 80 day labor jobs in moving, painting, yard work, weeding, siding and other tasks. Danny received an incredible amount of positive feedback from his employers.

In 2012, with guidance from our Employment staff, Danny had saved enough money from his jobs and decided to move back home to Oregon so he could be with his family.

Though he has other grandchildren, Danny’s positive outlook for his future makes little Addie Mae’s birth very special.

“The new and old grandkids fill me with wonder, awe and joy. If my life were any better, I would sprout wings on my feet and soar with the eagles,” Danny says.

Danny is one of the many men and women who come to the Millionair Club Charity looking for an opportunity to rebuild their lives. So far in 2013, we’ve successfully placed 61 workers into full-time or part-time employment and helped 45 individuals secure housing.
